J Dilla Tribute at Bardot

February 7th, the birthday of one of the greatest musical minds of our time, the late James Yancey (aka J Dilla/Jay Dee), has once again come and gone, and his legacy is being celebrated across the globe with tribute concerts and events. In Miami, on February 13, there will be a J Dilla tribute show going down at popular Miami venue Bardot.

If you think are not familiar with the man’s work, you may actually be familiar but simply aware of all the great music you have heard that he produced. Dilla has made hits for the likes of Erykah Badu, Common, A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, Busta Rhymes, and Janet Jackson, while also contributing to many notable underground recordings. Dilla was also a founding member of Detroit’s Slum Village, in which he both rapped and produced. He is also respected and loved for his solo material, most notably the classic and critically-acclaimed Donuts, made during his final days.

Jay Stay Shining: A Tribute to the Musical Legacy of J Dilla, presented by Nature Sounds, will feature DJ YNot and friends and be hosted by none other than Yancey’s mother herself, known among initiates as simply ‘Ma Dukes’. A portion of the proceeds will go to support the J Dilla Foundation, an organization supporting music education in inner-city schools, making this a positive event to support.

For more information and for tickets please check out the official website for the event. There are few artists who have ever made the type of impact on the musical landscape as we know it as J Dilla, and his legacy deserves to be celebrated, so we suggest you do just that and hit up Bardot this Thursday night.

Churchills Bike Nights on Thursdays

If you are looking for a good alternative to the glitz and glam of the club scene for which Miami is known, we have got just the weekly event for you. One of Miami’s most rockingest bars, the famous and beloved Churchills Pub, is definitely the place to be for bikers and bike enthusiasts in the Miami area on Thursday nights. Churchills Bike Nights, taking place every Thursday, generally bring anywhere from 20-100 bikers to listen to the live rock ‘n roll music for which the venue is known, drink and be merry, and talk shop regarding motorcycles and motorcycle culture. The event is 18+, so you can come check out the music and atmosphere if you are underaged, and if you are 21+, there are often sweet drink specials for bike nights.

If you are a serious biker, you will certainly feel right at home, but any and all are welcome, so don’t be intimidated if you are new to the scene or don’t ride at all. It doesn’t get much more badass than cheap drinks, cheap rock ‘n roll, and a bunch of hard-core bikers partaking of both, so this looks like just the kind of event us adventurous folk at Party Travel Hotspots’ Miami Lowdown are all about. Check out Churchill’s official website for details on the weekly entertainment and drink specials for bike nights. We recommend you check it out next Thursday and leave a comment letting us know what you think.

Although you may feel pretty much partied out after a rousing NYE in Miami, come Friday you will probably be ready to strap on the party hat once more, and there will be no better place to do it than at Mansion. This is pretty much the case every Friday as Mansion is of course one of the top nightclubs in the city, but this Friday, January 3rd, Borgore, one of the number one stars in EDM will be bringing his signature bass-heavy musical concoctions to the venue.

Borgore is also known for having dated porn star Jessie Andrews, further upping his cultural ante.

If you want to dance ’til you drop to the sickest of dubstep and more, hit up Mansion this Friday for Borgore and you will not be disappointed. If you want to go to a seriously bizarre Christmas event this year, there is just the event for you going down this Saturday December 21st, 2013 (also the Winter Solstice) in Fort Lauderdale in Santacon 2013.

In a sense the event is just what it sounds like; a night solely dedicated to our favorite plump and jolly gift-giving fellow Mr. Santa Claus himself. You may wonder exactly what goes into such an event, and what it basically entails is a whole lot of people dressed up as Santa Claus hitting up Fort Lauderdale bars as a group to drink and be merry in the spirit of the Christmas season.

This year’s Santacon will start at 6 PM at Mangos Restaurant and Lounge, before heading west down Los Olas Blvd. at 7. Among the stops will include Sweet Nectar, American Social, Vibe Las Olas, Downtowner Saloon, Capone’s, and more. All participating venues are offering special deals for Santa-dressed participants.

There will also be a collection of gift cards as well as items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and other necessities (no toys please) for Kids In Distress, so please be sure to bring something to help out those in need.

Santacon does not only take place in Fort Lauderdale, but in various cities across the country, meaning you will be part of a network of yearly revelers partying in the spirit of generosity and goodwill. If you love Christmas, love community, and love a good drink (or many), you will not want to miss it. Be sure to drink responsibly and behave yourself, as Santacon has a reputation to uphold. Check out the official website for the event for more details.
